Web version of Skype no longer requires a plugin

The Skype team announced the extension of capabilities of Skype for Web, a web version of the application. Recall, the web version of Skype was officially launched by Microsoft in June 2015. To make voice and video calls, you were required to download special plug-in or browser extension. Now Microsoft launched Skype for Web without the need of plugins, however, so far this version is available only the Microsoft browser Edge and test in the preview mode.

According to the developers, this step is part of a plan to support WebRTC standard Skype and Skype for Business. In the future the possibility to make calls without plug-ins should appear in the browsers Chrome and Firefox with the H. 264 codec. With the ability to display screen calls to landlines using Skype for Web, still need to install the plugin.
