The Italian antitrust service said yesterday it was investigating e-commerce giants Amazon and eBay in connection with an allegedly excessive increase in the price of certain products during the crisis caused by coronavirus.
Among European countries, Italy has so far suffered the most from the virus. The antitrust authority has opened an investigation into local Amazon affiliates, suspecting that prices for items such as hand sanitizers and face masks have been overestimated. In addition, the allegation of misleading advertising of certain products for sale on e-commerce platforms will be examined. In the descriptions of these products it was said that they are effective against coronavirus.
