According to the developers, Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is a reworked 4K-version of the original game with new graphics, digressions with explanations and hundreds of new sound effects. At the moment, Microsoft has opened an entry for participation in the closed beta of Age of Empires: Definitive Edition. The release is scheduled for the end of 2017.
