NASA will send to the Sun a mission named Eugene Parker in 2018

NASA (National Aerospace Agency) disclosed details about the mission, which is planned to be sent to the Sun at a record-breaking distance. The mission was renamed from Solar Probe Plus to Parker Solar Probe or the solar probe Parker in honor of American astrophysicist Eugene Parker (Eugene Parker), who in 1958 discovered the phenomenon of solar wind.

It is interesting that the project is presented to NASA as the first "starry" mission of mankind. Also worth noting that the agency first called the spacecraft in honor of a still living person. Now Eugene Parker is 89 years old and he took part in the press conference of NASA, where all these details were communicated. The solar probe should go into the region of the cosmos, which has never been investigated before. He must give answers to many questions about solar physics. It will be launched in the 20-day period, which opens on July 31 and closes on August 19, 2018. According to the plan, the probe will approach the Sun at a distance of 6.4 million km in November 2018, reaching the outer layers of its atmosphere, within the corona of the Sun. This is eight times closer than any other spacecraft previously flew to the Sun. Until 2025 the probe must make 24 turns in orbit around the Sun.
