The reMarkable company announced the release of the ultra-thin tablet reMarkable 2. This is the second generation of the product, introduced in December 2016. Like its predecessor, the device is addressed to those who are used to taking notes on paper and working with a pencil in their hand.
Compared to the first-generation tablet, the battery life is approximately doubled (a single charge of a 3000 mAh battery lasts for two weeks), and the delay on which the writing and drawing depends on the nature is almost halved, and now it does not exceed 21 ms. In addition, the tablet has become 30% thinner. With a thickness of 4.7 mm, reMarkable 2 is the thinnest tablet in the world. The tablet has not only become thinner – the distance from the surface on which the pen slides to the screen on which the image is actually displayed is reduced. This also contributes to a more accurate imitation of the work with ordinary pencil and paper. The tablet uses a second-generation Canvas monochrome display based on E Ink technology. Its size is 10.3 inches, resolution is 1872 x 1404 pixels. These parameters remained unchanged. The innovations include the USB-C connector.
A tablet measuring 187 x 246 x 4.7 mm weighs 403.5 g. It uses a dual-core processor architecture Arm, operating at a frequency of 1.2 GHz. The device configuration includes 1 GB of RAM LPDDR3 SDRAM and 8 GB of flash memory (enough to store 100,000 pages). The tablet supports USB and Wi-Fi. It runs on Codex, a special Linux-based operating system. The list of supported document formats includes PDF and ePUB. The reMarkable 2 tablet allows you to convert handwritten notes into text, and also offers convenient tools for organizing, sharing, annotating and finding documents. The reMarkable cloud service makes content available through companion apps for desktop and mobile devices, available for macOS, Windows 7 and later, iOS and Android. ReMarkable 2 pre-orders have already begun for $ 400. Delivery is scheduled for June 2020. For the first time, the Marker pen and cover will be included as a gift, and the Marker pen alone costs $ 49. The Marker Plus variant with an eraser at the top is priced at $ 99. Both are sensitive to pressing force (4096 levels) and tilt angle, and does not require recharging. A Folio cover costs $ 69, and a Book Folio with a magnetic mount costs $ 99.
