The retro-prefix NES Classic Edition managed to outrun the sales of the PlayStation 4 console from Sony and Xbox One from Microsoft in April 2017 in the US. This was reported by the VentureBeat resource with reference to the analyst Mat Piscatella (Mat Piscatella) from the company NPD Group.
Interestingly, the first place was taken by the new Nintendo Switch. Second place in the US took NES Classic Edition for $ 60, overtaking the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Recall that the mini-console NES Classic Edition complete with 30 classic console games started in November 2016. In February, a warning to stop the production of the retro console was released by Norwegian retailers, and in April, an early disappearance from sales was reported for the North American market. Apparently, it was the message about the termination of production and spurred the sale of NES Classic Edition, which is almost impossible to find in the US.
