When the SoC Snapdragon 720G was just introduced, relying on the Qualcomm description, we assumed that it is not much different from the Snapdragon 730 / 730G. Today Xiaomi introduced its first smartphones based on the new platform: Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Max. And we already managed to make sure that the Snapdragon 720G turned out to be even more productive than you would expect, because it easily bypasses the Snapdragon 730 as at least in AnTuTu. And now on the Web there are full-fledged comparative tests of the new SoC with its main competitors: Snapdragon 730G and MediaTek Helio G90T. Realme 6 Pro (Snapdragon 720G), Poco F2 (Snapdragon 730G) and Redmi Note 8 Pro (Helio G90T) participated in the test. As you can see, in AnTuTu all three platforms show very close performance. Helio G90T is the leader here, and Snapdragon 720G closes the top three. At the same time, if you look at the main indicators (CPU and GPU), then the Snapdragon 720G outperforms its competitors in terms of processor performance and lags behind in terms of graphics core performance, but the situation becomes even more interesting after 15 testing cycles, when the Snapdragon 720G comes in second place. However, these features are highly dependent on the particular smartphone, its settings and cooling system.
At Geekbench, the new Qualcomm platform is ahead of the Helio G90T and halfway ahead of the Snapdragon 730G (in single-threaded mode). After five cycles, Realme 6 Pro becomes a full-fledged leader. What is the result? The Snapdragon 720G can be called a copy of the Snapdragon 730G. The difference in the tests is more likely due to the implementation of a particular platform in a particular smartphone, because it is no secret that the same SoC in different devices can show completely different results. In this situation, only one thing remains unclear: why did Qualcomm release a supposedly new platform, formally endowing it with other processor cores, if in fact it is exactly the same as the company already had. And considering that the Snapdragon 720G is ahead of the regular Snapdragon 730, the confusion becomes even more fun, however, for users the appearance of the Snapdragon 720G is a great event, since smartphones with it are significantly cheaper.
