The developers of Yandex.Browser announced the release of a new beta version of the desktop browser for Windows and macOS. The main innovation was the ability not only to view office documents, but also to edit in the cloud service Microsoft Office Online.
And it works not only for files from the network. You can simply drag and drop the document into the browser window. As noted by the developers, they abandoned the previous technology of opening documents, which worked locally and was demanding of resources. Instead, it uses a lightweight Yandex cloud service to view documents. In addition to browsing, you can save a file in Yandex.Disk in one click. The editor also includes Word Online, Excel Online and PowerPoint Online applications from Microsoft's cloud-based office suite. All edits that you make to the document are automatically written to Disk.
The editor is available for testing in the beta version of Yandex.Browser 17.6.1 for Windows and macOS, which can be downloaded at browser.yandex.ru/beta. In the near future, support will also appear on Linux.
